Words to live by

Emotions are contagious. We've all known it experientially. You know after you have a really fun coffee with a friend, you feel good. When you have a rude clerk in a store, you walk away feeling bad. Makes sense

Have you ever looked at something and everything makes sense?

Advaana was developed through the years on the principle that progress takes time and understanding.

Children, youth, women, and seniors need to be given more opportunities to fulfil their path in life.

How is this done?

Simply to recognize that we have to go forward no matter the hard work or effort because in the end it makes a difference.

Programs for Seniors

Building leadership through mentoring
Seniors in Toronto fight isolation through mentoring youth and children in Toronto. Seniors run online mentoring and coaching sessions aimed at transferring emotional intelligence and life skills. Seniors will share stories from their professional and life experiences e.g. financial management and entrepreneurial skills. The seniors motivate children and youth to achieve their highest potential in school and life.

Basic computer skills for seniors
In this program seniors learn basic computer operations, as well as navigating internet and various social media platforms such as Facebook, Skype, Twitter, etc. Seniors are empowered to confidently shop online and have their purchases delivered to their doorstep. This program also covers the fundamentals of MS Office applications, basic computer operations and troubleshooting minor technical issues.

Music therapy for seniors
Seniors engage in a music therapy program that allows them to relax their mind and body by listening to soothing music. They are encouraged to dance or move their bodies along with the music, which will also help them to get some physical exercise.

Food choices and nutrition
Workshop participants will understand the benefits of healthy food choices and eating nutritious food. They will also learn to read and understand the nutritional labelling on food packages as well as the benefits of consuming alkaline versus acidic foods and beverages.

Meditation workshop for seniors
Seniors will learn and practice mindful meditation to relieve stress and anxiety. Seniors are encouraged to understand the benefits of practising mindfulness meditation to improve their overall wellbeing.

Women’s Programs

DYBB – Dress your best on a budget
Clothing impacts behaviour and self-image. DYBB is presented by leading fashion consultants who teach women how to make the right choice on clothes. The fashion consultants share with women a well-developed strategy on ‘how’ and ‘where’ to shop within their budget. The consultants also share the importance and benefits of fashion, and how one can dress appropriately for all occasions. Participants will be able to identify dress codes for different occasions such as formal, business casual, dressy casual, after-five clothing, cocktail attire, festive attire, etc. They will also be able to convey their individuality and self-expression with a choice of colors and designs.

Programs For Children

ADVAANA runs four flagship programs for children

Dramatised cross-cultural story-telling
This program enables children to take their power of imagination and creativity to greater heights. Children are the master weaver of cross-cultrural stories and primary entertainers. We encourage children to get involved in group activities to foster team spirit and bonding. Instead of a person narrating a story to the children, children become actors, narrators and active participants.

Emotional intelligence [EQ] and leadership
This program supports children to discover, nurture and develop emotional intelligence and life skills. It is geared to children eight years or older. In highly interactive workshop sessions, children develop life skills and are able to map out their specific purpose at each stage of life. Children develop their own goals and acquire the skills, knowledge and tools to accomplish their dreams.

Cross-cultural music and movement
In this program, children experience cross-cultural music from the diverse spectrum of cultures in Toronto! In a safe and non-judgemental space, children become the primary entertainers. Their parents and caregivers are encouraged to get involved in the group activities. This program fosters bonding and community.

Cross-cultural art and craft program
Children are the primary artists during this program. Children get to explore their artistic creativity in a cross-cultural environment. Excitement, creativity, and imagination are all experienced during the cross-cultural art and craft sessions.
